Blazers Post Saturday Sweep Over Alabama-Huntsville

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Upon their return trip to TitleTown this weekend, the Valdosta State Blazers made short work of the visiting Alabama-Huntsville Chargers in a pair of Gulf South Conference wins (8-4, 7-4) on Saturday.

Dalton Murray put on an offensive clinic at the plate on Saturday with four hits in six at bats. With a homer, a triple, and two doubles, each of his four hits were for extra bases, leaving Murray just a single shy of a cycle over the course of the two games.

Not to be outdone, Nick Koslowski gave the Blazers tremendous contributions at the plate with five hits and four RBI's on the day. Perhaps the biggest spark for the Blazers, however, was freshman second baseman, Carson McCullers. McCullers came up with some big plays on both sides of the ball and finished the day 4-for-7 with three RBI's.

The Blazers worked around 13 strikeouts in the first game with timely hitting and several extra base hits. Valdosta State scored multiple runs in three different innings, and a monster fifth inning in game two produced four runs to give a win to Ricky Miranda, who came on in relief midway through the abbreviated game two and improved to 1-0 on the season.

In game one, Logan Dubbe got the call for the start and spun a gem for his first win of the season. The senior's line included 5.1 innings pitched, in which he struck out five and allowed just three earned runs.

The sweep lifted Valdosta State to 9-12 on the year overall and 3-5 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Chargers fell to 9-8 overall and suffered a setback in conference play to drop their GSC record to 4-4.

The Blazers will return to action with a series finale against the Chargers on Saturday. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas field. Look for live links right here at www.vstateblazers.com.
