HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Valdosta State baseball team used an impressive offensive outing in game one to offset an scoring drought in game two, as the Blazers split a Saturday doubleheader (9-1, 0-3) against the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers in Huntsville, Ala.
Using the momentum of an eight-inning, four-hit performance by Blazer starter
Austin Hamilton, the Valdosta State offense racked up 12 hits, four of which were extra base hits in the eight-run game one triumph.
Five different Blazers swung for multiple hits in the game, and
Dalton Murray led the way with a 2-for-3 effort that led to four RBI's.
BJ White also produced two RBI's in the contest to up his total to six on the week, while
Kendall Herron delivered a 2-for-5 performance that included his fourth triple of the season.
Game two took an unfortunate turn for Valdosta State, as the Blazer bats were held hitless for the second time in less than a week. Three Charger runs, along with the no-hitter for UAH's Will Myers, lifted Myers' record to 4-2 on the season, while
Hunter Jones suffered the loss to fall to 4-3.
Hamilton's win in game won for Valdosta State evened up his record at 4-4, while the Blazers slid to 23-13 overall and 12-10 in GSC play after the day's results. Meanwhile, UAH finished the day at 15-19 overall and 10-12 in conference play.
The Blazers will conclude the weekend series in Alabama with a 1:00 finale on Sunday.
