Soccer Falls to Lee in Semifinal Round of GSC Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Valdosta State soccer team saw their Gulf South Tournament run come to an end on Friday night in Montgomery, Ala., as the Blazers fell to Lee in the semifinal round in a 5-1 loss.

The Blazers held the match close in the first half, missing on a few key opportunities while allowing the Flames to score two goals. The game took a turn for the worse early in the second half, however, as the Blazers allowed Lee to open up a 3-0 lead with a goal right out of the gate in the 47th minute.

Valdosta State's only goal of the contest came on a set piece in the later minutes of the second half, when Taylor Snell earned a free kick opportunity in the center right outside of the box. Snell capitalized on the opportunity and delivered a perfect ball into the back of the net past the outstretched arms of Haley Gribler in the 78th minute.

Valdosta State slid to 10-6-3 with the loss, while Lee improved to 15-4 on the year and earned a trip to the 2017 GSC Championship for a match against Mississippi College.
