Soccer Loses to Christian Brothers in Double Overtime Heartbreaker

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After over 103 minutes of Gulf South Conference action on Sunday afternoon, the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers broke through in the second overtime period to outlast the Valdosta State soccer team with a 2-1 victory in Memphis, Tenn.

The loss marked the final regular season game of the 2017 campaign for the Blazers, and Valdosta State will now turn their attention to the playoffs for a quarterfinal round matchup against an opponent yet to be determined. Valdosta State finished the regular season at 10-5-2 overall and 8-5-2 in conference play. The Lady Bucs, who clinched a postseason spot with the win, improved to 9-6-1, 7-5-1 in GSC play. CBU has one contest remaining in their regular season schedule.

Christian Brothers earned a penalty kick opportunity in the 13th minute of the contest, resulting in the game's first goal. Neither team scored again until Taylor Snell ripped the ball away from a defender in CBU territory and blasted home a shot in the upper right corner to tie the contest at 1-1. The final goal came with 6:13 on the clock in the second overtime period, when Melissa Tammi slipped a long shot past Alyssa Curtis for the golden goal.

The Blazers outshot the Lady Bucs 17-11 in the match and racked up eight shots on goal against CBU's five.
