LIVINGSTON, Ala. - Missed opportunities plagued the Blazer volleyball team in Livingston, Ala. on Friday night, resulting in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-23) Gulf South Conference loss to the West Alabama Tigers.
The Tigers improved to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in GSC play with the triumph, while the Blazers fell to 3-6 overall and 1-1 against GSC opponents.
UWA's victory was fueled by Yanesha Johnson, who posted 14 kills and 11 digs in the match. Johnson represented one of two Tigers to reach double-digits in the kill column, as Briana Sandifer delivered 13 against four errors in 47 attempts for a .191 hitting percentage.
Valdosta State's
Susanna Peonia tallied a double-double of her own with 10 kills and 13 digs, but the senior's effort was overshadowed by seven errors, which led to an .079 hitting percentage on the night.
As a team, the Blazers trailed the Tigers in nearly every major statistical category, including kills (44-34), total attacks (133-115), hitting percentage (.122-.195), service aces (3-1), and blocks (10-4). VSU outperformed UWA only in digs, 65-57.
