ROME, Ga. - A Tyler Trenary walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning drove in the winning run as Shorter defeated Valdosta State 7-6 in Gulf South Conference baseball action at Ledbetter Field Sunday afternoon.
Blaze Vazquez doubled to open the bottom of the 11th before Jake Harrellson drew a one-out walk. Dylan Riner was hit by a pitch to bring Trenary, a pinch-hitter to the plate. Trenary fell behind 2-2 before a pair of balls sent him to first and drove in Vazquez for the winning run.
Valdosta State (6-2, 1-2) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when
Bryant Hayman homered with two outs, his third round-tripper of the year.

Shorter (4-3, 2-1) took its first lead of the game with three runs in the bottom of the second, only to have

Mike Reed in the third to even the score. Two more Hawk runs followed in the fourth, including an RBI single by Riner, before the two teams traded runs in the sixth inning.
VSU forced the extra innings with two runs in the top of the eighth inning as Cruz walked and moved to third when
Jayk Graham reached on a two-base error.
Bobby Rice and Reed each hit sacrifice flies in the frame to knot the game at 6-6.
Valdosta State got a runner on in the ninth and two on in the 11th, but were unable to score.
Kellan Bailey pitched 6.1 innings in relief and allowed just two hits while striking out nine. However, we walked four batters, including two in the 11th as he fell to 0-1 on the season.
Cruz was 3-for-5 with two runs scored to lead Valdosta State offensively in the game.
The Blazers return to action Wednesday, February 18 at 5:00 p.m. when they host No. 12 Columbus State at Billy Grant Field.
