VALDOSTA, Ga. – In the final game of their Valdosta State soccer career on Saturday night at The VSU Soccer Complex, the five members of the 2015 senior class, along with their teammates, went toe to toe with the West Alabama Tigers and left it all out on the field in a gutsy 0-0 tie against one of the Gulf South Conference's top ranked team.
As they have throughout a majority of the 2015 season, the Blazer defense came up big, holding the Tigers to just eight total shots in the match. Senior defenders
Shelby Jennings and
Rebeca Bonilla anchored the backfield for Valdosta State, while
McCall Gardner delivered yet another solid effort in goal with six saves.
Kim Caitlin Alderman and
Erin Hill teamed up for four of 15 shots on the night for the Blazer offense and helped pressure the Tigers throughout the 110 minute affair, but neither team was able to penetrate the others' stingy defensive effort.
With a tie as the end result, the Blazers saw their season come to an end at 4-10-3 overall and 3-7-1 in GSC play, while the Tigers earned a fourth place finish in the conference, finishing 10-5-1 overall and 8-3-1 in conference action.
