TAMPA, Fla. - Valdosta State volleyball's incredible run in 2014 came to an end on Friday night in Tampa, Fla., as the Blazers fell 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-10) in the semifinal round of the South Region Tournament.
Tampa, the top ranked team in all of Division II volleyball, utilized a powerful attack throughout the duration of the match that included five different players with seven or more kills.
UT's Megan Heffron paved the way for the Spartans with a .391 hitting effort that included 12 kills and just three errors in 23 attempts, while Berkley Whaley racked up ten kills of her own.
The Blazers were afforded several attack opportunities, but a stingy Spartan defense picked up 50 digs in the contest and held VSU to an .078 hitting percentage on the attack.

Destiny Berry and
Jenna Kirkwood belted six kills each to lead Valdosta State on offense, while
Ashley Lala picked up a team-high nine digs.
The loss brings a close to a historic run that featured the VSU volleyball program's first ever appearance in the Gulf South Conference Championship, their first-ever GSC Championship win, their first berth into the NCAA Regional Tournament, and their first-ever regional win.

Mike Swan's squad concluded the season with a 25-8 record overall, while the Spartans improved to 30-1 on the year.
