"I'm very pleased to have Todd coming back and joining us again," stated Reinhard. "It's great to have somebody with not only his cross country experience, but also his experience with Valdosta State and our program. I'm thankful that he has been able to join us quickly to help get us going this fall, and I look forward to the success he'll bring moving forward."

While at VSU, Smoot has coached the young ladies and men to perform at their best in the classroom, course and in life. He places a high emphasis on academics throughout his tenure, which results in multiple All-Academic Gulf South Conference student-athletes and All-GSC Honor Roll.

Since earning a chemistry degree at North Carolina State University, Smoot held a variety of positions as a chemical plant manager before starting his own specialty running shoe store in Valdosta during the mid 2000's known as Get Active Running and More.

His accomplishments as a runner earned him a spot and recognition on the NCSU Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor track teams in the early 1980's, where he set personal bests with a 4:16 minute mile run, a 9:20 minute two-mile run, and a 14:43 time 5K run.
