In his two seasons at Valdosta State, Briny without question made the biggest impact on Blazer golf in the 40-plus years the sport has been a part of VSU Athletics. Briny led Valdosta State to back-to-back national tournament appearances in 1994 and 1995 and was medalist in that 72-hole event both years. He says his biggest thrill in golf was "repeating as Division II champion and ending my amateur career with a win." In his brilliant career, he won nine tournaments, playing sub-par golf in 25 of his 45 competitive rounds. He was a two-time first team All-America and was named the 1995 Division II Player of the Year.
