Jennifer Head
Jennifer Head begins her ninth season as the assistant coach for Kiley Hill at Valdosta State. She is also the recruiting, academic, team travel and community service coordinator for the Lady Blazers.
Head, a former head basketball and volleyball coach at Kansas Wesleyan, joined Hill in his second season in the Gulf South Conference in 2001. Hill has enjoyed their time working together.
"She is a solid friend and one of the high level coaches in the country. I couldn't find a more loyal, hard working, positive and dedicated teacher and person to work with on a day-to-day basis. She is a difference maker for this program, me and anyone she comes in contact with. You will find her fingerprints on our picture of success," Hill said.
Head helped Hill lead the Lady Blazers to seven conference tournament appearances, and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Her defensive guidance, along with Hill, propelled both the 2005 and 2007 teams to lead the nation in scoring defense while compiling a pair of 24-7 records, only to follow it up with a 26-6 record in 2008 and 21-9 in 2009.
Head is a Kansas native who played volleyball, basketball and ran track at Liberal High School. She established an impressive basketball record at Kansas Wesleyan where she led her team to a National Small College Athletic Association national championship in 1998 and a fifth-place finish in 1999. In volleyball, her 1998 squad won the conference title, earning her Conference Coach of the Year honors. Additionally, Head coached seven NAIA Academic All-Americans at Kansas Wesleyan.
During college, Head attended Seward County Community College and Kansas Wesleyan, where she was the basketball team's captain in her senior year and named the school's outstanding female athlete. Following graduation, she was named assistant women's basketball coach for the Coyotes, a position she held for two years before taking on the volleyball and basketball head coach positions at Kansas Wesleyan.
Head, who also teaches in the kinesiology and physical education department and is the athletic department's senior woman administrator, has been an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes since 1987. She also coordinates all community service efforts undertaken by VSU's student-athletes. In addition, she is the chief advisor of the student-athlete advisory committee.
