VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State's four-match winning streak came to an end Friday night when West Florida beat the Lady Blazers, 25-14, 25-17, 25-23. With the win West Florida moves to 18-12 on the season and 7-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State is 15-11 with a 4-5 record in the GSC.
Arielle Parnell led the Lady Blazers in kills with eight on a .429 attacking percentage while Katie Onushko contributed seven kills. Irene Hannan had six in the effort. Hannan also led VSU in digs with 11 while Macy Markham had eight. Emelia Saulter passed out 24 assists.
For West Florida, Lindsay Homme led the way with 15 kills. Patricia Gandolfo had 13 in the match and there were two others with nine. Tricia Tirabassi passed out 39 assists. Both Tirabassi and Chelsea Wilhoite had 10 digs in the match while Gandolfo had five blocks.
There is a chance these two teams will meet in the Gulf South Conference tournament as both have clinched a berth. Until then, though, Valdosta State has one more match. The Lady Blazers will face West Alabama at 4 p.m. Saturday at the P.E. Complex.
