Lady Blazers Go Wild on Wildcats

Valdosta State Sweeps Fort Valley State

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State made short work of Fort Valley State Friday night. On a night when VSU Volleyball celebrated Halloween and welcomed all kinds of costumes, the Lady Blazers looked frightening with the 25-9, 25-9, 25-14 win to move to 15-10 on the season.

After giving up the first point of the match, the Lady Blazers stormed back to score 12 unanswered points behind 11 serves from Ruthie King. After that, the rout was on.

Irene Hannan hit .526 for 12 kills while King made eight. Emelia Saulter passed out 27 assists and Hannan led the team in digs with 11. The Lady Blazers hit better than .475 in both the first and second games.

Franchesca Long led the Wildcats with six kills and Andrea Stephenson led the team in digs with seven. Tellana Hill passed out six assists.

The Lady Blazers have played their way into a chance to clinch a Gulf South Conference Tournament berth this weekend. If West Georgia loses to North Alabama Saturday, Valdosta State will clinch a spot in the postseason.

Valdosta State will also have the chance to secure a spot in the tournament with matches against West Florida and West Alabama next week.
