Hannan Again Named Player of the Week

Hannan's 112 digs earns consecutive Player of the Week Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Valdosta State's Irene Hannan earned her second consecutive Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Gulf South Conference. This week she helped lead VSU past North Alabama for the first time in school history and Alabama-Huntsville, both in four games.

Hannan racked up 63 digs in just three matches. Last week she tallied 49 for a total of 112 in two weeks. She notched 21 against West Georgia, 18 against UNA and 24 in just four games against Alabama-Huntsville.

She played a complete game against North Alabama as she also added two solo blocks and two block assists with 18 digs and 13 kills. She also notched a solo block and a block assist against UAH. Hannan averaged 4.85 digs and 0.46 blocks per game on the week.

In addition to her defensive performance, Hannan also contributed on offense. She put up 23 kills against West Georgia and 13 against both North Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville. She averaged 3.77 kills per game over the week.

This week she will lead Valdosta State against Albany State Thursday and Fort Valley State at 7 p.m. in the P.E. Complex Friday.
