Golf Finishes Tied for Seventh

Gunn tallies fourth straight Top 10 Finish

OCOEE, Fla. - Valdosta State shot a final round 291 to finish tied for seventh at the Rollins Invitational, held at the par-72, 7,095-yard Forest Lake Golf Club Monday and Tuesday.

The Blazers opened the tournament with a one-over 289 in each of the first two rounds before finishing the final round with a three-over-par to shoot 869 (five-over) for the tournament. Nova Southeastern claimed team medalist honors in the event with a 19-under 845, followed by St Edward's at 848. Barry and Lynn were two strokes back and tied for fourth while Rollins shot an eight-under 856 to take fifth. Florida Southern rallied in the final round with a three-under 285 to finish one-over with an 865, besting the Blazers and Columbus State by four strokes.

Florida Tech took ninth with an 883 followed by Saint Leo (888), Tampa (889), Brevard Community College and Concord (891), Eckerd (897) and Nassau Community College (917).

VSU's Chesley Gunn tallied his fourth top 10 finish in as many tournaments this year as he tied for 10th with a three-under 213. Chad Smith tied for 20th with an even par 216 followed by Fredrick Hildebrand at one-over and tied for 24th with a 217. Evan Hanna finished 55th with a 227 while Will Repko rounded out the VSU squad with a 230 to finish tied for 60th.

Lynn's Patricio Salem and St. Edward's Collin Mayer each shot an 11-under 205, with Salem claiming individual medalist honors on the second playoff hole.

The Blazers take the rest of the winter off before returning to action February 15 at the Matlock Invitational in Lakeland, Fla.
