VSU Can't Finish West Georgia

Lady Blazers win first two games, drop final three

CARROLLTON, Ga. - For the third match in a row, Valdosta State played a full five-game match. But for the second consecutive match, the Lady Blazers lost in the fifth frame. West Georgia beat VSU, 20-25, 18-25, 26-24, 25-21, 15-9.

With the loss, Valdosta State drops to 11-10 on the season with a 2-4 record in the Gulf South Conference. West Georgia moves to 10-15, 1-5 in the GSC.

The Lady Blazers jumped out to a good start winning the first two sets by five and seven points. The third set was a close one in which West Georgia needed an extra point to win. After that, the Lady Blazers would not take another game.

Irene Hannan played her third match with 20 kills or more, notching 23 on the night. She also had 21 digs while Ruthie King had 14 kills and 17 digs. Emelia Saulter and Macy Markham each contributed 11 digs while Saulter passed out 55 assists. Katie Onushko had four blocks while Tania Tauiliili blocked three.

It would not be enough as West Georgia put up 11 blocks. Jasmine Dotson led the team in kills and digs with 14 and 17 respectively. Audrey Hipple had 13 kills and 15 digs while Ellie Murphy dug the ball up 16 times.

Valdosta State will look to rebound against North Alabama Friday at the P.E. Complex.
