LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The top team in the Gulf South Conference's East Division proved too much for Valdosta State Saturday. West Alabama swept the Lady Blazers, 25-15, 25-14, 25-21. With the loss, VSU drops below .500 in the GSC at 2-3 while West Alabama stays undefeated at 4-0. The teams are 10-7 and 19-5 respectively.
Again, it was Irene Hannan who led the team in kills. She had 10 on the night with a team-leading nine digs as well. Ruthie King put up nine kills and five digs.
Lea Weber made her first strong showing of the season as she passed out 31 assists on the night with four digs and the only Lady Blazer block of the match.
Chelsea Luttfring was the defensive stalwart for Valdosta State with her second match in which she leads the team in digs. She had 16 to lead all players.
West Alabama's Jessica Crook put up 11 kills on a .400 attacking percentage. Alexis McHale passed out 33 assists and Thais Hollerbach had 12 digs. Jordan Kent had two solo blocks and two assists in the match.
The Lady Blazers next match will take place at the Rollins Crossover Tournament October 17-18.
