Valdosta State Bounces Back

Lady Blazers Beat Alabama-Huntsville, 3-1

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Valdosta State rebounded from the loss to North Alabama Friday with a 3-1 win against Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday, 25-16, 26-12, 22-25, 25-17.

With the win, the Lady Blazers move to 2-1 in the Gulf South and 10-4 on the year. Alabama-Huntsville falls to 6-16 on the season and 0-3 in the GSC.

Irene Hannan led the team in kills with 13, but it was the excellent play of middle blockers Arielle Parnell and Tania Tauiliili that helped the Lady Blazers put away the Chargers.

Tauiliili had seven kills on just 14 attacks for a .500 percentage while Parnell was second on the team in kills with 12 on a .455 attacking percentage. Parnell was also in on five blocks with one solo.

Hannan and Ruthie King both led the team in digs with 11, but Chelsea Luttfring was right behind them with nine. Emelia Saulter passed out 44 assists.

For Alabama-Huntsville, it was Allison Cousins leading the team in kills with 11. Kaeli McCaghren had 16 digs to lead the team while Kelly Wilson led in assists with 25.

Valdosta State will look to start a win streak with the team's next match against Flagler at 7 p.m. at the P.E. Complex on Tuesday.
