North Alabama Takes Hold of GSC East

Lady Blazers Fall to UNA, 3-0

FLORENCE, Ala. - Valdosta State started strong against North Alabama, forcing the first game into extra points. But after falling in the first game, 27-25, the Lady Blazers could not score enough to beat the UNA Lions, and eventually fell, 27=25, 25-19, 25-17.

The Lady Blazers move to 9-4 on the season and an even 1-1 in the Gulf South Conference while UNA keeps an undefeated record in the GSC, 2-0, and goes to 10-8 on the season.

Ruthie King led Valdosta State in kills for the match, finishing with 10. Just behind her was Katie Onushko with nine and Irene Hannan with eight.

Both King and Hannan notched 15 digs on the night while Macy Markham and Emelia Saulter both dug up the ball 10 times. Saulter also had 29 assists in the match.

Sarah Roberts led the Lions in kills with 12 while Alison Jacobs had 11 digs to go with her 36 assists.

The Lady Blazers were out blocked, 6-1, by the Lions. Aside from Arielle Parnell's attacking percentage of .312, Valdosta State was too inefficient on the attack. The Lady Blazers compiled a .124 attacking percentage to North Alabama's .222.

Valdosta State will look to bounce back at Alabama-Huntsville at 2 p.m. Saturday.
