Blazers Win Flagler Invitational
Gunn claims medalist honors
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Valdosta State shot a final round 303 to claim an 11-stroke victory at the Flagler Invitational, held at the par 72, 7,201-yard Palencia Golf Club Tuesday.
The Blazers finished the three-round tournament with a 28-over 892 after totaling the lowest round in two of the tournament's three rounds of play. Tuesday's team total of 303 paced the tournament field, besting USC-Beaufort by three strokes.
VSU's Chesley Gunn claimed medalist honors as he shot a three-under 69 on Tuesday to finish as the only golfer under par for the tournament with a three-under 213. USC-Beaufort's Chris Lane was second with a one-over 217 followed by Flagler's Joel Dahlenburg and Tampa's Kris Shane at four-over with a 220.
Gunn was joined in the top 10 by Blazers Will Repko and Evan Hanna, who posted a pair of nine-over 225's to tie for eighth in the event. Chad Smith tied for 21st overall with a 13-over 229 while Wade Holland tied for 45th at 236 ( 20).
Host Flagler came home second with a 39-over 903 while USC-Beaufort and SCAD were a stroke behind and tied for third. Tampa rounded out the top five with a score of 919, 55-over-par.
The Blazers return to action Monday, October 5 when they compete in the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational hosted by Columbus State.
