VSU Notches First GSC Win of Season

Lady Blazers Take West Georgia in Five

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State used a balanced offensive attack against West Georgia to move to 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference and 9-3 on the year. West Georgia fell to 8-10 and 0-2 in the GSC with the loss.

Behind double-digit kills from Irene Hannan, Ruthie King and Katie Onushko, the Lady Blazers beat the Wolves of West Georgia, 25-22, 22-25, 24-26, 25-18, 15-8.

Hannan finished with 16 kills while King had 15. Onushko added 12. Emelia Saulter joined King to lead the team in digs with 16. Hannan had 15 on the night and Onushko finished with 10. Saulter also passed out 45 assists and registered a solo block in addition to a block assist.

Tania Tauiliili led the team in blocks with six assists, but Onushko added four. Hannan and Logan also notched solo blocks back to back for VSU's 11th and 12th points in the fifth frame.

Mary Krueger led West Georgia in kills with 16 while Ellie Murphy racked up 21 digs. Taylor Mense gave 41 assists on the night.

Valdosta State faces North Alabama in Florence, Ala. at 8 p.m. Friday.
