Lady Blazers Have Great Finish in Huntsville
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Valdosta State women's cross country team placed 8th and the men's cross country team finished 5th this weekend at the Fleet Feet/ Earl Jacoby Memorial Invitational.
The women's squad finished the day strong, Angelina Horne recorded a time of 20:18 to finish 16th overall while Ashley Luther was less than a minute behind in 29th place. Neka Gibbs placed 41st with a time of 22:11 and Tiffany Zuganelis was 51st in a time of 23:05. Ashley Hiott came home 58th in a time 23:48, and Andrea Smith rounded the Lady Blazer squad with a showing of 73rd.
As a squad VSU finished with a total of 195 points beating North Alabama by 42 points. UAB's Rhiannon Johns claimed first place with a time of 18:22.
UAH won the men's 8K meet with 54 points followed by Alabama State in 2nd with 67 points. The Blazers were not far behind in 5th place with a total of 116 points. Jacksonville State's David Nilsson claimed first place with a time of 25:15.
For the Blazers, Chris Rice finished 10th overall with a time of 27:46 while Austin McDonald was 21st at 28:23. DJ Smith was four seconds behind and finshed 23rd while Steven Cary placed 30th with a time of 29:27. Cory Stejback came home in a time of 29:44 to finish 32nd while Terence Boyd (30:24), Kenny Brooks (31:00), and Juan Tejada (31:43) all tallied Top 50 finishes for VSU.
The Blazers and Lady Blazers return to action September 26th when they travel to Macon, Ga. for the Georgia State Intercollegiate.
