Basketball Adds to 2009-10 Squad
James Jackson joins Blazers
VALDOSTA, Ga. - James Jackson has joined the Valdosta State men's basketball team, according to an announcement made by Blazer head coach Mike Helfer on Wednesday.
Jackson comes to VSU from Truett-McConnell College, where he played for coach Cory Baldwin. The 5'11 Jackson averaged 12.7 points and 4.4 assists per game for the Bears in 2008-09 while also pulling down 2.2 rebounds per outing. He finished the season second on the TCC squad with 41 steals.
"James has all of the tools to be a great player here," said Helfer in making the announcement. "He has that competitive nature that will push him to even higher levels as a player in our system.
"James is a point guard who can also score and create his own shot. He comes from a great junior college program and will be prepared to contribute to our team immediately."
Jackson is the second former TCC player to sign with the Blazers this season, joining center Josh Williams. The Blazers return four starters and nine letterwinners off of a team that compiled a 24-7 record and advanced to the NCAA South Regional Tournament in 2008-09.
