Lady Blazers Split to Start Season

VSU Beats Stillman, Falls to Rollins

VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Lady Blazers jumped out to a great start against Rollins Friday afternoon with a chance to win the first game. Valdosta State saw two game points in the first, but could not close out. That was a mistake VSU would not make again when the team faced Stillman.

The Lady Blazers fell to Rollins, 3-1, but rebounded with a 3-0 victory over Stillman at the West Georgia Classic.

"We started really well in the first game. We did some good things," Head Coach Sia Poyer said. "We were scrappy throughout the match, and we will be throughout the season."

The first and third games against Rollins were the team's best games Friday. Valdosta State took a narrow loss in the first, but won the third game off Rollins.

Poyer said it felt like VSU won nearly every rally but made too many service errors.

Valdosta State will look to finish the tournament tomorrow against USC-Aiken at 10 a.m. and Barton at 12:30 p.m.
