Valdosta State Tallies Seven All-Americans
Four Blazers, Three Lady Blazers Named All-American
VALDOSTA, Ga. - Seven Valdosta State tennis players were named to the 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) All-America Team. Four Blazers and three Lady Blazers made the team.
A singles player must finish in the top 20 of the final ITA rankings while a doubles player must be in the top 10 for all-american status. Daniel Dueren, Florian Halb and Joerg Ekkenga all made the singles group with final rankings of fourth, 12th and 17th respectively. Ekkenga joined Leos Jelinek as all-americans in doubles competition.
The Blazers finished the season 16-4 and undefeated in Gulf South Conference play. The Lady Blazers team was one of the final four left in the nation before falling to Armstrong Atlantic State, the 2009 National Champions. The Lady Blazers finished 14-4 with just one loss in conference action.
