Blazers Add Second Signee
Josh Williams adds depth to front court
VALDOSTA, Ga. - Josh Williams, a 6-foot-9 center, has signed a national letter-of-intent to play with the Valdosta State men's basketball program in the 2009-10 season, according to an announcement made by Blazer head coach Mike Helfer on Monday.
Williams joins the Blazers from Truett-McConnell Junior College after leading Bears to a 16-14 record in 2008-09. Williams averaged 8.6 points a game as he connected on 96-of-180 field goal attempts, a 53.3 percent success rate. He also shot 77.3 percent from the free throw line, where he made 58-fo-75 attempts. Williams led TMC with 7.4 rebounds on the season and blocked 68 shots while appearing in 29 of the Bears' 30 contest.
"Josh brings a big physical presence for us in the paint," said Helfer in making the announcement. "He is very skilled on the block offensively and is an excellent shot blocker. We are pleased that he will be joining our program in the fall."
Williams joins Billy McShephard as members of the 2009 signing class for Helfer. The Blazers return four starters and nine letterwinners off of a team that compiled a 24-7 record and advanced to the NCAA South Regional Tournament in 2008-09.
