Valdosta State Continues National Play

Three Teams to Compete in National Tournaments

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Lady Blazer tennis and softball along with Blazer baseball will all compete in national tournaments this weekend.

Valdosta State's softball team travels to Huntsville, Ala. to face Alabama-Huntsville in a best two out of three series for the NCAA South Regional Championship and the right to go to the eight-team national tournament in Virginia. The games are scheduled for Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. if the third game is necessary. The Lady Blazers split with the Chargers in the only two games they played this season. Valdosta State won the first, 4-2, while UAH came back in the second to win 9-4.

Lady Blazer tennis travels to Orlando this weekend for nationals. There are only 16 women's tennis teams left, and Valdosta State will start the tournament against Northwood at 4 p.m. Wednesday. If the red and black win, the Lady Blazers will face the winner of Montana State-Billings and Hawaii Pacific at 1 p.m. Thursday. In the case VSU wins that match as well, the team will compete against an opponent to be determined at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Blazers have already beaten Hawaii Pacific, 6-3, March 29, but have yet to face any of the other teams.

Blazer baseball will begin South Regional play against Barry, the Sunshine State Conference champion and second seed in the region, at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday. Southern Arkansas will host the tournament as the top seed in the region while VSU is the seventh seed. The tournament will run through Monday.
