VALDOSTA, Ga. - In an effort to show appreciation and support of the South Georgia United soccer club and their efforts to grow the game of soccer in South Georgia and surrounding areas, the Valdosta State women's soccer program will host SGU night at the VSU Soccer Complex on Tuesday, October 21. The event is set to take place in conjunction with the Blazers' Gulf South Conference matchup against the rival Wolves of West Georgia, which is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
South Georgia United was founded in during the summer of 2009 and has since become one of the region's most recognized clubs. The organization is committed to providing children and young adults of all neighboring communities a full range of opportunities to enjoy and develop their ability and interest in the game of soccer. During the past five years, the club has organized and developed leagues for ages U-6 through U-19 in the southern part of the state of Georgia. SGU takes pride in its ability to offer a variety of programs that address the needs and interests of all children in the participating communities.
Tuesday night's matchup between the Wolves and the Blazers will feature players and coaches who developed their skills and love for soccer through South Georgia United, one of which is West Georgia Head Coach and former SGU coach, Chris Davidovicz. In addition to a great GSC soccer match, fans attending the event can enjoy watching a skills game at halftime consisting of several players of the clubs currently involved in the SGU program.
