Valdosta State University Athletic Hall of Fame
The Valdosta State Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2008 was inducted on January 26, 2008. The five new inductees brings the hall membership to 56. The hall of fame was initiated in 1997. The new inductees included:
Dr. Kurt Jacobson, Team Physician
A key contributor to the Valdosta State Athletic Department, Dr. Kurt Jacobson has served as the Valdosta State team physician for the VSU Athletic Program for the last 23 years. Also an integral member of the VSU Athletic Training Academic program, Jacobson has accumulated nearly 30 years of experience in the Sports Medicine field.
C.J. Lofton, Football
One of the most decorated players in Valdosta State football history, C.J. Lofton lettered for the VSU gridiron squad from 1999 through 2002. He is the only football player in school history to earn All-America status three times, accomplishing the feat in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Lofton ranks among the Top 10 in school history in career receptions (3rd with 228), receiving yards (4th with 2,724), receiving touchdowns (2nd with 32) and scoring (7th with 196 points). His name can be found twice on both the Top 10 single season marks for receptions (7th and 8th) and receiving touchdowns (6th and 7th). Lofton played on three NCAA Regional Playoff teams and was named to the Gulf South Conference first team in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
Kathy Kennedy Matthews, Women's Basketball
A four-year letterwinner and two-year starter on the women’s basketball team, Kathy Kennedy Matthews starred for the Lady Blazers between 1993 and 1997. She played in 107 career games, scoring 1,045 career points and grabbing 763 career rebounds. Kennedy started all 56 games played during her junior and senior seasons and led the team in rebounding both seasons, averaging 10.9 rebounds as a junior and 12.7 as a senior. She was named All-Gulf South Conference in each of her last two seasons and led VSU to the NCAA regional tournament as a senior. Kennedy also earned the GSC’s Commissioner Trophy as the league’s top female student-athlete and was named honorable mention All-America her senior season.
Reggie Mosley, Football
A four-year letterwinner for the football team, Reggie Mosley was a stand-out wide receiver for the Blazers between 1999 and 2002. He was twice named All-America, earning the honor in 2001 and 2002 while helping lead VSU to the NCAA Playoffs both years. Mosley is the Valdosta State record holder in career receiving yards with 3,738 and career receiving touchdowns with 48 while also ranking in the Top 10 in career receptions (2nd with 235), scoring (3rd with 296 points), kickoff return average (8th at 21.7) and punt return average (5th at 8.4). He also owns the single season school record for receiving yardage with 1,295, which he set in 2002, and also stands fifth (1,063 in 2001) and seventh (1,016 in 2000) in that category. His name can also be found in the career record books in single season receptions (6th with 79 in 2002), as well as, third (18 in 2001), fourth (15 in 2002) and seventh (12 in 2000) in receiving touchdowns.
Aparna Sreenivasan, Women's Tennis
A three-year letterwinner, Aparna Sreenivasan played for the women’s tennis team between 1999 and 2001. She tallied a 34-13 career singles mark while going 33-20 in doubles play for a squad that advanced to two NCAA Tournaments. She earned First-Team All-Gulf South Conference honors all three seasons with the Blazers and was named All-America as a junior in 2000. |
